Sporting story 2: Pointeso mudflats.

Pointeso Mudflats

Lolos was lost on the mudflats on the Pointeso estuary. He rested against the white pole whilst looking up at the orange wind sock fluttering in a north easterly direction.

Noise from above.

‘Bang! Bang! Bang!’

Lolos was thrown back into the mud as a Delta jet flew overhead – making contact with the military targets out to sea.

Overcome with fear, he proceeded to shout at the skies in a state of frenzied panic, the whites of his eyes gleaming in the mid – morning sun.

The jet pilots continued their aerial assaults oblivious to the lost canine quivering two hundred feet below.

The Breckindale moon.

Marcia stood at the tip of Breckindale hill and looked down into the town below, orange lights flickering in Tracker town She scanned the skies and felt a sense of impending doom overcome her senses. Marcia tuned her radio in to the latest football match on Sporting radio.

Pundit 1: ‘well Brian, The moon has been missing now for the past 3 nights, and still rather peculiarly, may I be so bold as to add, nothing appears to have changed. No tidal waves, severe changes in the weather, psychological outbreaks…nothing’.

Pundit 2: ‘Well, that’s all very good my man, but we’ve had a big game tonight – do you think the Delta manager was right in his refusal to take off his tired players at the end of the first half?’

Pundit 2: ‘Aye, he’s got to start looking at that really – I mean…’

Sketchbooks are usually private and personal, a creative space in which thoughts and ideas are noted by artists, architects and designers.

These inspirational first thoughts; embryonic artworks, buildings or products, offer a fascinating insight into the creative process.

The exhibition features sketchbooks from contemporary artists Grayson Perry and Simon Faithful as well as historic sketchbooks from the Usher Gallery’s collections.

The exhibition not only explores the way in which sketchbooks are used but tackles the challenge of exhibiting books; how can we view the pages? In the special ’Library zone’ you will be able to select, take off the shelf and browse through over 200 sketchbooks which have been loaned in response to an open invitation. Sketchbooks have been contributed by artists from all over the country and from the USA and Europe.

The exhibition is curated by John Plowman.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a two-day international conference entitled Recto, Verso at The Collection on 10 & 11 February 2011.

Marc Renshaw: The Big Draw - Drawn In.

As part of 20:21 Visual arts Centres big draw programme, artist Marc Renshaw will be working on his drawing project: Drawn In.

Marc will be combining projection with detailed drawing derived from the old and new features of the building.

Come along and watch him draw and get involved in creating your own drawings on the activities table.

Free drop-in activities in the gallery between 10am to 5pm. Suitable for all ages.

The artist will be drawing at the venue on Saturday the 2nd and 16th of October.
